Dwight "Ike" C. Long, age 71, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023, at his home in Canton Ohio surrounded by loved ones.
In his 71 years of life, he became the person you turned to first for help, comfort, and a laugh to make the day better.
Ike was born February 17, 1952, in Canton, Ohio to the late George Sr and Ina Long. He was the 5th of 6 children.
After high school he joined the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy, he returned home and welcomed his children, Jennifer, Anthony, and Krystal into the world. He worked 20+ years as a Trackman for Conrail and retired in 1999.
After retirement he enjoyed his life out at his farm building memories with his kids and grandkids. He loved driving around to reminisce, talk about his days working on the railroad, yelling about politics, and telling jokes. Among all his life accomplishments the best years of his life were spent when he moved to Cape Coral, Florida in 2007 where he raised his grandson (son) Zach. As soon as they got there his life revolved around cruising around on his boat and watching Zach play baseball. Ike took great pride in all of his children and grandchildren's lives' and he was always there to support everyone. There has never been and will never be another man like Ike.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved children; Jennifer Long, Anthony (Jen) Long, Krystal Wolfe, Zachary Long; grandchildren Samantha (AJ) Wright, Brayden Long, Maddox Long, Parker Long, and Olivia Long; great grandchildren Jaelen Wright,Julianna Wright, Jameson Burkhart; sibling's George Jr Long, Janet Hall, Paula (Carl) Weisbrod, Peggy Greene; and Capone, Ike's bulldog and most faithful companion who stood guard next to his bed till the very end.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Judy Nicoles, and his grandson Trenton Burkhart.
Private family services will be held.
