Maurice Owens Obituary

Maurice Anthony "Mo" Owens, age 55, passed away unexpectedly in Aultman Hospital on Thursday April 4th, 2024. He was born on July 19th, 1968, in Canton, Ohio, the son of Clarence Sr. and the late Ophelia L. (Bell) Owens. Mo had an incredible zest for life. He always worked very hard and lived his life to the fullest. He accepted Christ at an early age and was loved by all who knew him. Mo had a very peaceful and laid-back demeanor. He spoke wisdom, and had the same quiet spirit as his grandmother, Allie Bell. From youth, he was a very gifted athlete, excelling in baseball, football and especially basketball. He played basketball for McKinley High school in the 1980's and was an amazing player. He loved spending time with family and shared so many wonderful memories with close friends and family. Mo was an avid sports fan and loved all the Northeast Ohio Sports teams. You'd always see him in Cleveland Browns, Guardians, Cavs, Ohio State Buckeyes or McKinley Bulldogs attire, and he wore it with great pride. In his spare time, he loved to fish, cook (which he learned from his mother), play cards, and root for his favorite Ohio teams. Mo was just an amazing human being, and he will forever be remembered and cherished as such. Maurice Anthony “Mo” Owens was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ophelia L. (Bell) Owens; his maternal grandparents, Rev. Eugene and Allie Mae Bell; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Effie Owens; several aunts and uncles from both sides of his family and a cousin, Cornell Lamar Curtis. He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his father Clarence Owens Sr., of Canton, Ohio, three brothers, Clarence Owens Jr., Keith Owens, and Kevin Owens, and one sister, Geneva “Gigi” Maria (Minor) Lawal, all of Canton, Ohio, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 20, 2024, at 12 pm at Zion's Temple Church, 1103 7th St. NE, Canton, Ohio 44705, with Rev. X.O. Roby and Pastor Raphael Cox officiating.
